Can you pay Google for SEO?

Can you pay google for SEO? Well let’s break this down! SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a practice that will boost your website on the search engine results and help you reach the front page of Google search results faster – naturally, this is converted into a significant increase in sales or, generally, an increase in traffic to your website (More on that later).

So, the question is, of course,

Can you pay Google for SEO?

Not exactly. Sure, it would be easy and straightforward to just give money to Google and watch as your rankings increase on the search engine. But unfortunately, it doesn’t quite work like that. Google will not increase your website ranking for a fee. (Although Google Ads exist, that is a completely different topic) But a solution exists.

You can hire an SEO expert to do it for you. Most SEO experts will offer services such as a review of your site content or structure, content development, and keyword research. Therefore, although Google will not directly boost your rankings for a fee, your business will benefit from an SEO expert. This is a pretty big deal for most businesses. A good SEO can boost your website’s sales significantly, and a bad SEO can damage your reputation.

How do I choose a good SEO?

Good SEOs normally own a professional-looking website: It’s very common for these experts to have a solid grasp on coding or WordPress. (did you know that 40% of all websites on the Internet are made with WordPress?) Although the restructuring of a website can be done by an in-house Web Developer, so extensive knowledge of coding isn’t always mandatory, and SEOs shouldn’t be judged on this factor alone.

SEOs will also offer a variety of different services all aiming to improve your rankings on Google. This is a non-comprehensive list that an SEO may offer:
  • Review of site content or structure: There are several ways your website can be improved, such as the inclusion of side-links and images, which help Google understand how your website is structured. Find our guide here
  • Technical advice on website development: The server your website is hosted, error pages, or incorrect Javascript can all affect your website’s ranking and even its performance. Continuous poor performance can lower your ranking.
  • Content development and keywords: You will often see SEOs suggesting content to be rewritten. This isn’t random, as specific keywords will help your website rank. Keywords are found with software and are often one or multiple words that an expert SEO will handpick considering your current rank, website size, and other factors.
  • Statistics and data to validate claims: SEOs will often work with clients through what is commonly known as a campaign: Expert SEOs will provide you with the data that shows what they are doing is working throughout the campaign, and of course, also what is not working -and they might suggest new approaches to the problem -. If your SEO is just saying “Things are going great” without proof, chances are, things aren’t going great.
